Bisseck, Esposito and Zielinski score as Inter beat Feyenoord 3-0 in Rotterdam to answer derby defeat

Yann Bisseck, Pio Esposito and Piotr Zielinski scored in a 3-0 win at Feyenoord in Rotterdam, with Djed Spence setting up the first two goals, as Inter answered their derby defeat with a controlled Champions League performance and moved to six points from four games.

Rotterdam, Netherlands: Inter needed eight minutes to settle a night that had started with questions. Three days after losing the Milan derby 3-1, they walked into De Kuip, took the game away from Feyenoord almost at once and never let it back.

Bisseck sets the tone

Spence slipped a pass into Yann Bisseck on the edge of the Feyenoord area, and the defender turned his marker and curled a left-footed shot into the far corner. It was an early blow that shaped everything that followed. Feyenoord chased the game from the eighth minute onward.

They did create moments. Anis Hadj Moussa tested Josep Martínez from a tight angle, and the Inter goalkeeper got his body in the way as the ball deflected behind. Luciano Valente also tried his luck, but his efforts were straight at Martínez. Beyond that, the hosts struggled to carry a sustained threat.

Esposito heads in the second

The second goal arrived in the 34th minute and again came from Spence, whose delivery took a deflection and dropped for Francesco Pio Esposito, who rose to meet it with a header that came down off the crossbar and over the line.

Feyenoord looked for an immediate response and did not find one. Inter went in at half-time two goals clear.

Zielinski ends the contest

Nine minutes into the second half, the match was settled. Zielinski carried the ball forward, found space on the edge of the box and drove a left-footed shot past Tjark Ernst for the third. Esposito later thought he had a fourth, but the goal was ruled out for a marginal offside after a Federico Dimarco pass.

Inter’s night was not entirely comfortable at the end. Martínez was shaky under late corners and misjudged one in the 80th minute, but Feyenoord could not turn the pressure into a goal. Coach Cristian Chivu said afterwards that his team had played the best version of itself, built on organisation and intensity, and that the win gave the squad a boost of confidence.

What it means

The result lifts Inter to six points from four matches after the 4-3 home defeat by Club Brugge and the derby loss to AC Milan earlier in their run. They still have work to do to secure a place in the next round, and the display in Rotterdam was a clear step back in the right direction. Feyenoord have three points from four games and a steep task ahead.
