Kylian Mbappé scored twice, either side of Raphinha’s equaliser, as Real Madrid beat Barcelona 2-1 at Camp Nou to end the league leaders’ unbeaten start. Madrid have now won five straight games in all competitions and sit three points behind Barcelona.
Barcelona, Spain: José Mourinho’s Real Madrid arrived at the Spotify Camp Nou as challengers and left as the first side to beat Barcelona in La Liga this season. Hansi Flick’s team had won their first nine league games, but they came into Sunday’s Clásico after a 4-2 midweek defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League, and Madrid made them pay.
A deflection breaks the deadlock
The first half was tight. Joan García saved Arda Güler’s effort in the 18th minute, and Mbappé’s scissor-kick in the 33rd went over the bar. Madrid found their opening in the 41st. Yan Diomande swung in a cross, Gerard Martín tried to clear it, and the ball struck Mbappé and went into the net. Madrid took the lead into the break.
Madrid had arrived after a 4-1 win over Sevilla, in which Mbappé also scored twice. Barcelona had won 5-2 at Real Betis.
Raphinha answers on the hour
Barcelona needed a moment and got one in the 61st. Pedri threaded a reverse pass into Raphinha, whose shot beat goalkeeper Andriy Lunin; he got a hand to it but could not keep it out. Lunin claimed Martín’s header from a corner in the 66th minute, and Lamine Yamal’s shot in the 78th went wide. Barcelona found no second goal.
Camavinga sets up the winner
Madrid struck instead. After a flash of skill from Jude Bellingham, Eduardo Camavinga beat Pau Cubarsí and cut the ball back for Mbappé, who tapped into an empty net with García out of position. The goal came in the 87th minute and left Barcelona with too little time to respond.
A title race reopened
The result ended Barcelona’s unbeaten run in the league and cut the gap at the top. Barcelona lead La Liga on 27 points after ten rounds, with Atlético Madrid second on 25 and Real Madrid third on 24, three points off the summit. Madrid have now won five games in a row in all competitions. For a side that went two seasons without a trophy before Mourinho’s return, it was the kind of win that changes the mood of a campaign.
Result: Barcelona 1-2 Real Madrid (La Liga, Spotify Camp Nou, Sunday 25 October 2026). Goals: Mbappé 41’, 87’ (Real Madrid); Raphinha 61’ (Barcelona).
