Dominic Solanke headed in a stoppage-time equaliser as ten-man Tottenham Hotspur salvaged a 1-1 draw at Manchester United, cancelling out Bryan Mbeumo’s 73rd-minute opener. Rodrigo Bentancur’s red card had seemed to hand United the win; instead Spurs left Old Trafford with a point.
Manchester, England: Manchester United had the lead, the extra man and the clock on their side. They did not have the win. Tottenham Hotspur, still without a league victory after six games, claimed a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford on Saturday evening through a late Solanke header, a goal Michael Carrick’s side will feel they should never have conceded.
A first half Spurs controlled
The visitors set the tempo from the first minutes. Senne Lammens denied Solanke early on, Mohammed Kudus fired just wide and Conor Gallagher forced another save from the United goalkeeper before the break. United managed little in reply and went in goalless, fortunate that Spurs’ finishing did not match their pressing.
Cunha’s run, Mbeumo’s finish
The game tilted after the interval. United’s substitutions injected urgency, and in the 73rd minute the pressure told. Matheus Cunha cut in from the left and found Mbeumo, who turned away from his marker and slid a low shot past the Tottenham goalkeeper.
Bentancur’s red card changes the night
Within minutes the match turned again. After a clash involving Luke Shaw, Bentancur headbutted the United defender and referee Stuart Attwell sent him off; Shaw was booked in the same incident. Spurs were down to ten with the clock running down, and United, one goal ahead, sat deeper to protect it. A string of bookings followed as the contest turned scrappy.
Solanke’s late sting
Tottenham refused to fold. In stoppage time Sandro Tonali swung a cross into the box and Solanke, tangling with Lisandro MartÃnez, got ahead of the scramble to head it in. The goal denied United a victory that had looked secure, in a season that has already swung between extremes: a 2-0 opening-weekend defeat at promoted Hull City and, later, a 5-2 win over Ipswich Town at Old Trafford.
The point lifts Tottenham to 18th, out of the bottom place, on two points from six games. They host Coventry City next.
Result: Manchester United 1, Tottenham Hotspur 1 (Premier League, Old Trafford, Saturday, 10 October 2026).
Scorers: Mbeumo 73′ (United); Solanke, stoppage time (Tottenham).
Red card: Rodrigo Bentancur (Tottenham), for headbutting Luke Shaw.
