Brighton led 3-0 inside ten minutes and beat Crystal Palace 5-0 at the Amex Stadium, with Diego Gómez striking from long range, Yasin Ayari and Charalampos Kostoulas on target and Jack Hinshelwood completing the rout. The win lifts Fabian Hürzeler’s side to third in the Premier League.
Brighton, England: Crystal Palace arrived on the south coast fresh from a European defeat in Lyon. They left having conceded three goals before the ten-minute mark, and the afternoon never offered them a way back.
Three goals in ten minutes
The opening came from Pascal Groß’s delivery, which Palace defender Jaydee Canvot turned into his own net in the fourth minute. Three minutes later Gómez struck. Seeing Walter Benítez off his line, he shot from around 50 metres and the ball dropped over the goalkeeper and into the net.
Ayari made it three in the tenth minute, finishing after Gómez and Kostoulas had opened up the Palace defence. Pierre Sage’s team had been overrun inside ten minutes.
Palace never recover
Jean-Philippe Mateta hit the bar for the visitors, the nearest they came to a response. Kostoulas made it 4-0 in the 48th minute, soon after the restart, and substitute Jack Hinshelwood added a fifth in the 84th.
Brighton now have 23 league goals from seven games and a goal difference of plus 18.
A season gathering pace
Brighton have 16 points from seven matches and sit third, behind Manchester City and Arsenal. The only blemish remains their 4-3 defeat at Chelsea in August, a game they lost despite having most of the possession.
For Fabian Hürzeler the day carried extra meaning: his side had lost 1-0 at the Amex to Palace last season. Palace, meanwhile, now have to regroup after a week in which they were beaten 3-2 by Lyon in the Europa League and then thrashed at the Amex.
Result: Brighton & Hove Albion 5-0 Crystal Palace (Premier League, Amex Stadium, Sunday, 18 October 2026)
Goals: Canvot 4′ (og), Gómez 7′, Ayari 10′, Kostoulas 48′, Hinshelwood 84′ (Brighton)
