Lamine Yamal scored after seven minutes and Raphinha added two second-half goals as Barcelona beat Aston Villa 3-0 at Camp Nou. The result ended Villa’s perfect start to the Champions League league phase and handed Barcelona a clean sheet on a wet night in Catalonia.
Barcelona, Spain: Aston Villa arrived at Camp Nou with a perfect Champions League record. They left with their first league-phase defeat, beaten by a Barcelona side that scored early, controlled the game and added two more after half-time.
Yamal makes the early breakthrough
Barcelona led after seven minutes. Yamal pounced on a loose Villa pass inside the visitors’ own area and finished past goalkeeper Zion Suzuki. No assist was credited. Fermín López was later denied by a save from Suzuki as Barcelona pressed for more.
Raphinha doubles up
The second goal came early after the interval. Raphinha scored in the 52nd minute to make it 2-0, and Barcelona’s lead was not seriously threatened again. In the 64th minute João Cancelo took the ball past John McGinn and played a precise pass across for Raphinha to score from close range. It was Raphinha’s second of the night and sealed the result.
Barcelona controlled possession and created the better chances, while Villa, who had won every league-phase game under Unai Emery before this, could not find a way back into the match.
Where it leaves Barcelona
The win came on the heels of a strong run in Spain: Barcelona beat Alavés 6-1 at the weekend, with Raphinha and Yamal scoring twice each, to return to the top of La Liga.
Result: Barcelona 3, Aston Villa 0 (UEFA Champions League, league phase, Matchday 4, Camp Nou, November 3, 2026). Barcelona scorers: Yamal 7′, Raphinha 52′, 64′ (assist: Cancelo).
