PSG substitutes Senny Mayulu, wearing number 24, and Mika Godts celebrating a goal against Lyon at the Parc des Princes

Super-subs Mayulu and Godts send PSG top of Ligue 1 with a 2-0 win over Lyon

Substitutes Senny Mayulu and Mika Godts scored in the 72nd and 84th minutes as Paris Saint-Germain beat Lyon 2-0 at the Parc des Princes, extending their winning run to eight games and moving one point clear at the top of Ligue 1.

Paris, France: Paris Saint-Germain pushed at a Lyon side that would not break for seventy minutes, then needed only twelve to settle it. Two players off the bench, one scoring his first goal of the season and the other his first for the club, turned a tight Monday night into a statement.

A match delayed, a goalkeeper defiant

The game was scheduled for Sunday, but police ordered a 24-hour postponement amid fears of protests and disorder in Paris. When it finally kicked off, Lyon defended deep and Dominik Greif carried them through a goalless first half.

He saved with his foot to deny Ferran Torres early, then stopped the same forward again from a tight angle. Désiré Doué beat four defenders and still shot straight at him. João Neves sent a bicycle kick over the bar, and Fabián Ruiz volleyed wide. Lyon had their moments, with Zachary Athekame forcing a save from Matvey Safonov in the 31st minute and Julien Duranville testing him too, but PSG kept the territory.

Mayulu and Godts break the deadlock

The breakthrough came in the 72nd minute. Godts found Mayulu at the edge of the area, and the 20-year-old took a touch and drove a low shot into the bottom-left corner. It was Mayulu’s first goal of the season.

Twelve minutes later Godts finished the job himself. Quentin Ndjantou released him with a long pass over the top, and Godts struck from the edge of the box for his first goal in PSG colours. Lyon, who had defended so well for an hour, had no answer.

Top of the table, with injuries still biting

The win lifted PSG to 17 points from eight games, one clear of Rennes. It was their fifth straight Ligue 1 win and their eighth in all competitions. Lyon, who would have gone top with a victory, stay fifth on 14 points.

PSG did it without Ousmane Dembélé and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. Kvaratskhelia tore his anterior cruciate ligament in the Champions League win over Barcelona, and before kick-off, PSG’s supporters displayed a banner backing the Georgian winger. Marquinhos is also out.

The depth matters for a side that has beaten Manchester City and Barcelona by 4-2 in consecutive Champions League matches this month. On Monday, it was not the stars but the replacements who kept the run alive.

Result: Paris Saint-Germain 2-0 Lyon (Ligue 1, matchday 8, Parc des Princes, Monday 26 October 2026). Goals: Senny Mayulu 72′, Mika Godts 84′.
