Real Madrid have officially confirmed Vinicius Jr has signed a new contract until June 30, 2032, ending 18 months of negotiations and closing the door on Arsenal’s pursuit of the Brazilian star. It is believed José Mourinho personally intervened to convince Vinicius to commit his future to the Bernabéu.

Mourinho had stepped directly into negotiations at a key moment — personally speaking to Vinicius about his role in the club’s project and conveying Florentino Pérez’s view that the Brazilian was one of the cornerstones of everything Real Madrid intended to build. The president, for his part, had viewed Vinicius as untouchable throughout. It was the mechanism of the deal, not the desire, that had taken so long to align.

At 26 years old — he turns 27 in July 2027 — Vinicius now has a contract that runs until he is 31. The deal, which Fabrizio Romano describes as a six-year extension, covers the period through which Real Madrid expect to remain competitive at the highest level in Europe. The release clause, per sources in the Spanish press, remains in the region of €1 billion — a figure designed as a deterrent rather than a genuine invitation.
Arsenal’s Summer Ends With a Closed Door
For Arsenal, the confirmation of Vinicius’ renewal closes the most ambitious chapter of their summer transfer window. Mikel Arteta’s side had been identified as the primary Premier League suitor for Vinicius — a club genuinely positioned, both financially and in terms of footballing ambition, to make a case.
Arteta will now redirect his attention. Julian Álvarez, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Désiré Doué have all been mentioned in connection with Arsenal’s attacking recruitment plans. With Bruno Guimarães arriving in midfield and the Vinicius door now firmly shut, the direction of Arsenal’s window will pivot.
