Sheetal Devi equals world record with 704 as India top compound archery qualifying at the Asian Para Games

Sheetal Devi shot 704 out of 720 in the women’s compound ranking round at the Asian Para Games, equalling the world record. She and Toman Kumar then set a mixed-team mark of 1,402, as India opened the archery in Okazaki with records in the ranking rounds.

Okazaki, Japan: Seventy-two arrows, and a number the sport’s record book already carried. Sheetal Devi finished the women’s compound ranking round on 704 out of 720, a score that matched the world record set by Türkiye’s Öznur Cüre Girdi at the Paris 2024 Paralympics and put India top of the seedings.

A record matched, an Asian mark erased

Sheetal’s card read 352 in each half, with 32 Xs. The total improved her own Asian record of 698, set in Bangkok in March 2026, and lifted the Asian Para Games record from 680 to 704.

Team scores that rewrite the table

The individual number was only part of India’s day. With debutant Payal Nag adding 675, Sheetal took India to 1,379 in the women’s doubles ranking round, an Asian and Games record that beat the previous mark of 1,378. China were second with 1,338.

In the mixed team ranking round, Sheetal and Toman Kumar scored 1,402, according to World Archery, above the previous world record of 1,400. In the W1 women’s event, Swati Chaudhary set a Games record of 648.
