Giovanni Simeone scored twice and Ché Adams added a header as Torino beat Parma 3-0 at the Tardini on Monday. Rafik Belghali set up Simeone’s early opener as Ignazio Abate’s side won a second league game in a row, leaving Alberto Gilardino with a bitter home debut.
Parma, Italy: The match was four minutes old when it began to slip away from Parma. By the time Giovanni Simeone struck again in the 69th minute, Alberto Gilardino’s first home game in charge was beyond saving.
Simeone strikes inside four minutes
Torino went ahead almost immediately. Belghali crossed first time from the right and Simeone volleyed in. It was the kind of start that sets the terms of an evening, and Parma never fully recovered from it.
Adams makes it two, VAR agrees
The second arrived in the 24th minute. Ché Adams rose to head Torino further in front, and the goal stood after a VAR check. Two goals inside the opening half-hour put Abate’s side in control of a match Parma struggled to shape.
Parma press, Simeone ends it
Parma improved after the break, with Gilardino pointing to a positive spell of 20 to 25 minutes early in the second half. Torino absorbed it. Then Simeone, from outside the box, produced the long-range strike that killed the contest and completed his double.
A bitter debut and what comes next
Gilardino admitted his side were poor in the first half-hour and did too little to deserve a different result. Parma’s Delprato said conceding twice early had compromised the game. Parma travel to Lazio next, on Saturday 24 October.
Torino, who came into the match after a 2-1 win over Udinese, host Monza on Friday 23 October. The result was one of several on a Serie A matchday that also saw Milan hold off Atalanta 3-2 at San Siro.
