Barcelona have confirmed that Dani Olmo has a left adductor muscle injury and will be out for around a month. The midfielder was hurt in a collision during Tuesday’s 4-2 Champions League defeat at PSG and will miss Sunday’s Clásico against Real Madrid.
Barcelona, Spain: Barcelona said on Wednesday that tests had confirmed an injury to Olmo’s left adductor muscle, caused by a collision with an opponent during the Champions League game against Paris Saint-Germain. The club’s statement said the player is expected to be out for around a month.
Hurt in the first half in Paris
Olmo left the pitch in the first half at the Parc des Princes after the collision, and Fermín López replaced him. Barcelona went on to lose 4-2 to PSG, ending an 11-match winning run and suffering their first defeat of the season.
Olmo had been in scoring form. He came off the bench to score Barcelona’s fifth goal, from outside the box, in the 5-2 win at Real Betis on Saturday.
The matches he will miss
The most immediate casualty is Sunday’s Clásico against Real Madrid at Camp Nou on 25 October. A month-long absence would also take in the La Liga home game against Alavés, which the club has yet to date, and the Champions League visit of Aston Villa on Tuesday 3 November.
Barcelona’s statement did not give a return date or list the fixtures he is expected to miss, so the length of the absence will depend on how the injury responds to treatment.
