India produced another encouraging display on the second day of the 2026 Commonwealth Games, with boxers, swimmers and lawn bowlers making significant progress in their respective events. While medals remained elusive for most of the day, several Indian athletes booked places in the next rounds and finals to keep the country’s hopes alive heading into a busy weekend.
The biggest success in the ring came through Jadumani Singh, who delivered a commanding performance against Scotland’s Aaron Cullen in the men’s 55kg boxing competition. The Indian dominated all three rounds to secure a unanimous points victory and advance to the Round of 16, making an impressive start to his Commonwealth Games campaign.
In the swimming pool, Olympian Srihari Nataraj showcased his consistency by progressing through both the heats and semi-finals of the men’s 50m backstroke. The experienced backstroker comfortably booked his place in the final, where he will have an opportunity to challenge for a medal.
India also remained in contention in para swimming after Ravi Veera Venkata successfully negotiated the heats of the men’s S13 100m freestyle. His qualification for the final ensured Indian representation in yet another medal event as the para swimmers continued to impress in Glasgow.
On the greens, Putul Sonowal added another important victory to his impressive campaign in the men’s singles lawn bowls competition. The Indian edged Falkland Islands’ Cecil Alexander in a tense contest that went to a tiebreak, strengthening his position in the sectional standings and keeping himself firmly on course for the knockout stages.
With India’s boxers making a winning start, swimmers reaching finals and lawn bowlers maintaining their strong form, Day 2 provided plenty of reasons for optimism as the Indian contingent prepared for another packed schedule of medal events in the days ahead.
