Alcaraz beats De Minaur 6-1, 6-4 to win the Vienna Open without dropping a set

Carlos Alcaraz beat Alex de Minaur 6-1, 6-4 in 97 minutes to win the Vienna Open without dropping a set. It was his fourth title of 2026 and the 28th of his career, and Alexander Zverev takes the world No. 1 ranking on Monday.

Vienna, Austria: Alex de Minaur made Carlos Alcaraz work for every game of the Erste Bank Open final, and still left Vienna with nothing to show for it. Alcaraz won 6-1, 6-4 on Sunday, closing out a week in which he never lost a set.

A first set closer than the score

The scoreline hid a tense opening set. De Minaur took five of his seven service games to deuce, forcing Alcaraz to earn each point. But the Spaniard broke three times and took the set 6-1.

De Minaur holds on, then cracks

De Minaur dug in during the second set and saved break points in the second, fourth and eighth games. The pressure told in the tenth. Alcaraz broke for 6-4 and finished the job on his first championship point, after a long rally, with the match lasting 97 minutes.

Another title, another record

The victory was Alcaraz’s fourth title of 2026, a season that included the Australian Open, and the 28th of his career. It was also his seventh win in seven meetings with De Minaur, a run that has taken in grass, clay, indoor hard and outdoor hard courts.

The title capped a strong week. Alcaraz beat Daniil Medvedev in the semi-final, while De Minaur earned his place in the final by upsetting top seed Zverev in a deciding tie-break. Our Vienna Open semi-final round-up has the full story of that day. Zverev, despite the defeat, replaces Jannik Sinner at the top of the world rankings on Monday.

Result: Vienna Open (ATP 500) final: Carlos Alcaraz beat Alex de Minaur 6-1, 6-4.
