Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad completed a four-player IPL 2027 trade on Thursday, sending Khaleel Ahmed and Nathan Ellis to Hyderabad for Liam Livingstone and Jack Edwards. Livingstone’s fee falls from Rs 13 crore to Rs 6 crore ahead of the retention deadline.
Two franchises with injury-hit squads swapped four players on Thursday. Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad announced a trade that takes England all-rounder Liam Livingstone and Australian all-rounder Jack Edwards to Chennai, and sends Indian left-arm seamer Khaleel Ahmed and Australian fast bowler Nathan Ellis to Hyderabad.
A swap shaped by fitness and form
All four players had a disrupted IPL 2026. Livingstone made 15 runs in two matches for Sunrisers before losing his place in the side. Khaleel played five games for Chennai before an injury ended his season. Edwards and Ellis did not feature at all, both missing the tournament through injury. Chennai had signed Ellis for Rs 2 crore.
The deal is a homecoming for Khaleel, who played for Sunrisers from 2018 to 2021 and returns on his current fee of Rs 4.8 crore. In IPL 2025, his first season with Chennai, he took 15 wickets in 14 matches.
The money
Livingstone’s price is the headline figure. Sunrisers had paid Rs 13 crore for him; according to the official announcement, he joins Chennai at Rs 6 crore, less than half that amount. Edwards moves at his existing fee of Rs 3 crore, while Ellis joins Sunrisers on his current Rs 2 crore.
What it means for Chennai
The trade follows an overhaul of Chennai’s backroom, where Albie Morkel, Gareth Batty and Mohit Sharma joined Zaheer Khan’s coaching staff for IPL 2027. Livingstone and Edwards now add two overseas all-rounders to that rebuilt group, while the departures of Khaleel and Ellis remove two bowlers who spent last season sidelined or short of games.
The calendar ahead
Trades come before the lists are locked. The BCCI has extended the deadline for all ten franchises to submit their retained and released players from 15 November to 17 November, and the one-day mini-auction remains scheduled for 16 December in Goa. With both sides now committed to their new players, attention turns to who each franchise keeps and who it lets go.
