Bawne’s 169, Patil’s 148 and Gaikwad’s unbeaten 101 lift Maharashtra to 527 for 5, but Jharkhand escape with a draw in Pune

Maharashtra declared on 527 for 5 after Ankit Bawne’s 169, Digvijay Patil’s 148 and Ruturaj Gaikwad’s unbeaten 101, but Jharkhand batted 136 overs in their second innings, with Shikhar Mohan making 127, to draw the Ranji Trophy match in Pune on Wednesday.

Pune, India: Maharashtra built a 358-run first-innings lead in their Elite Group C match and still could not force a result. Jharkhand, bowled out for 169, made them wait, bat by bat, until the match ran out of time.

Bawne and Patil rebuild from 81 for 3

Maharashtra were 81 for 3 after 25.2 overs when Bawne and Patil came together. They added 230 for the fourth wicket, a stand that turned a shaky start into a commanding position. Two quick wickets then left Maharashtra on 345 for 5.

Gaikwad closes the door

It stayed shut. Gaikwad joined Bawne and the pair put on an unbroken 182, taking Maharashtra to 527 for 5 in 150 overs before captain Prithvi Shaw declared. Bawne finished on 169 off 358 balls with 13 fours, his 26th first-class century. Gaikwad made 101 off 172 balls, with six fours and a six, for his 10th.

Jharkhand refuse to break

Jharkhand ended the third day on 130 for 1, with Mohan unbeaten on 74 and Utkarsh Singh on 45, still 228 runs behind. On the last day Mohan converted that platform into 127, and Jharkhand played out 136 overs in their second innings to finish on 344 for 8. Maharashtra could not bowl them out.

It was a different story elsewhere in the round. Mumbai beat Himachal Pradesh by an innings and 97 runs, and Mizoram’s Chinmay Sutar finished unbeaten on 400.
