Manish Narwal shot 233.7 to win silver in the men’s 10m air pistol SH1 final at the Asian Para Games in Nagoya, finishing behind South Korea’s Jo Jeongdu, who set a Games record of 241.3. The result also secured India a quota place for the 2028 Los Angeles Paralympics.
Nagoya, Japan: The eight-man final in Aichi-Nagoya gave Narwal another major podium. A Paralympic gold medallist from Tokyo 2020 and a silver medallist in this event at Paris 2024, he again finished behind a South Korean in top form.
A final with one clear winner
Jo Jeongdu set the pace and the mark. His 241.3 is an Asian Para Games record, and it left Narwal 7.6 points adrift at the top of the table. Narwal’s 233.7 was still well clear of the rest of the field. China’s Yang Chao took bronze on 213.6, more than 20 points back.
India’s second finalist, Rudransh Khandelwal, finished seventh in the eight-man final with 127.3.
The quota that matters most
The medal carried a bigger prize than colour. Narwal’s silver earned India a quota place for the 2028 Los Angeles Paralympics, making him the third Indian para shooter to secure one at these Games. Mona Agarwal and Avani Lekhara had done so a day earlier, finishing first and second in the women’s 10m air rifle standing SH1 event, a result that headlined India’s day-one haul.
Shooting adds to a strong week
The silver arrived alongside a strong run for India’s archers. Sheetal Devi had earlier equalled the world record with 704 in the compound ranking round, and the shooters have now given the team a pistol medal and a quota to go with the rifle one-two.
The result in Nagoya secures India a place at the Los Angeles Games; who fills it is a question for later.
