Sediqullah Atal made 102 and Ibrahim Zadran 90 as Afghanistan scored 294, then Rashid Khan took 4 for 17 to bowl Zimbabwe out for 136. Afghanistan won by 158 runs in Abu Dhabi to open their UAE ODI tri-series campaign.
Abu Dhabi, UAE: Afghanistan won the toss, chose to bat, and never let the game drift. By the time Zimbabwe were bowled out in the 39th over, a day-night contest at Zayed Cricket Stadium had turned into a comprehensive 158-run win.
Atal and Zadran set the tone
Sediqullah Atal top-scored with 102 off 110 balls, and captain Ibrahim Zadran made 90 off 96. Afghanistan were bowled out for 294 in 50 overs, with Brad Evans and Ernest Masuku taking three wickets each for Zimbabwe.
Atal, who had made a maiden Test hundred against Bangladesh in Abu Dhabi last week, was named player of the match.
Rashid takes the chase apart
Zimbabwe’s reply never found rhythm. Rashid Khan took 4 for 17 from eight overs and Fazalhaq Farooqi added 2 for 15 from five. Sikandar Raza top-scored with 48, with Brian Bennett and Ryan Burl making 31 each, but Zimbabwe were all out for 136 in 38.4 overs.
What it means
Zimbabwe had opened the tournament a day earlier with a 99-run win over Bangladesh, so the result leaves them with a win and a heavy defeat. Afghanistan, with a big margin on the board, start with the more convincing performance.
