Kristoffer Ajer equalised just two minutes after John McGinn had put Aston Villa 2-1 ahead, earning Brentford a 2-2 draw at Villa Park. The visitors had led after ten minutes, but needed a late response to take a point from the Premier League Gameweek 6 fixture.
Birmingham, England: Four goals came at Villa Park on Saturday, and they arrived in two bursts: two inside the first twelve minutes, two more inside the final fifteen. In between lay a long stretch in which neither side could break the other down, until McGinn and Ajer traded blows within two minutes and the match finished 2-2.
A frantic start
Brentford needed only ten minutes to lead. Yehor Yarmoliuk put the visitors in front before Villa had found their footing. The home side hit back almost immediately, Nicolas Jackson equalising around the twelfth minute, and the contest settled into a long, level spell.
McGinn’s moment, Ajer’s reply
With 77 minutes played, McGinn put Villa 2-1 up, with Johan Manzambi credited with the assist. It looked like the decisive moment, but it lasted barely two minutes. In the 79th, Jaidon Anthony laid the ball off for Ajer, who finished low to level the score once more.
What the point means
The equaliser stretched Brentford’s unbeaten start to the league season to six matches. Villa will see it differently: after a 1-0 home defeat to Arsenal earlier in the season, they led at home in the second half and could not close the game out.
Result: Aston Villa 2, Brentford 2 (Premier League, Villa Park, Saturday, 10 October 2026).
Scorers: Yarmoliuk 10′ (Brentford), Jackson 12′ (Villa), McGinn 77′ (Villa), Ajer 79′ (Brentford).
