PV Sindhu beat Line Kjærsfeldt 21-12, 21-14 and Lakshya Sen beat Jonatan Christie 21-17, 21-10 to give India both singles titles at the HYLO Open Super 500 in Saarbrücken. Two Indians had not won at the same Super 500-plus event in four years.
Saarbrücken, Germany: India left the Saarlandhalle with two trophies on Sunday. PV Sindhu and Lakshya Sen each won their singles final in straight games, 39 minutes apiece, to complete a day that the badminton calendar had not seen for four years.
Sindhu keeps her week perfect
Sindhu, the second seed, beat Denmark’s Line Højmark Kjærsfeldt 21-12, 21-14. Kjærsfeldt stayed level until 5-5 in the first game before Sindhu led 11-8 at the interval and pulled clear. In the second game the Dane cut a 7-3 deficit to 7-6, but Sindhu went into the break 11-7 ahead and held on despite a late fightback.
She did not drop a single game all week, beating compatriot Anmol Kharb, 19, 21-13, 21-16 in the semi-finals. The title is her second on the BWF World Tour this season, after the Japan Open in July, and it came a week after she lost the French Open final to world No. 1 An Se-young, a match covered in our French Open final report.
Sen answers with a title of his own
Later in the day, Sen beat Indonesia’s Christie 21-17, 21-10. He took the first game, then dominated the second to close the match out. It is his first title of the 2026 season and levelled his head-to-head record against Christie. Sen also reached the All England final earlier this year, finishing as runner-up.
A double not seen since 2022
Two Indians have now won titles at the same World Tour event at Super 500 level or above for the first time in four years. The last occasion was the 2022 India Open, where Sen won the men’s singles and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty won the men’s doubles.
