Guus Til tapped in at the far post after PSV had twice hit the woodwork, and Peter Bosz’s side held on to beat Francesco Farioli’s Porto 1-0 at the Estádio do Dragão. The result gives PSV a first league-phase win and leaves Porto without a point after three games.
Porto, Portugal: Porto had the counter-attacks and the 18-year-old Oskar Pietuszewski. PSV had Til at the far post and a back line that refused to break. In a match of fine margins, the Dutch side found the one moment that mattered and then defended it with everything they had.
A goalless first half
The opening spell went to PSV. Ivan Perišić headed over from Lutsharel Geertruida’s cross in the sixth minute, Til curled a long-range effort just past the post, and Filip Kostić hit the outside of the post with an open run on goal. Porto were most dangerous on the counter, with Pietuszewski the outlet. He hit the side-netting once and later went to ground after contact with Til, but the appeal for a penalty was waved away. It was 0-0 at the break.
Til arrives at the far post
Porto came out harder after the restart, which pulled PSV back and gave them less of the ball. Esmir Bajraktarević struck the post with a powerful shot. Moments later he and Sven Mijnans combined to find Til at the far post, and the forward tapped in on 57 minutes for the only goal of the game.
Kovář, Geertruida and Dest hold the line
Porto pushed for an equaliser, and PSV had to defend for it. Pepe shot wide, Hwang In-beom’s effort was blocked and Alberto Costa’s header was saved by Matej Kovář, who also made a strong stop to deny a counter-attack. Geertruida cleared Victor Froholdt’s effort off the line. Sergiño Dest then cleared from an empty net after Kovář had come far off his line. Souza sent a shot just wide in stoppage time. At the other end, Diogo Costa had been tidy in the Porto goal, keeping out a Mijnans chance.
Bosz’s first win over Farioli
The victory carried a personal note for Bosz. Farioli, then in charge of Ajax, had beaten his PSV side twice in 2024-25, and this was Bosz’s first win over him in three meetings.
For Porto, it is a difficult start. They have now lost to Manchester City, Real Betis, who came from behind to win 3-2 at La Cartuja, and PSV, and sit 33rd in the 36-team table with no points. PSV, who drew 1-1 with Shakhtar Donetsk and lost 1-0 at RB Leipzig before this, climb to 16th with four points. Their next league-phase game is at home to Club Brugge on 4 November, part of the schedule set by the August league-phase draw.
Result: PSV Eindhoven 1, FC Porto 0 (half-time 0-0), UEFA Champions League 2026-27, league phase, matchday 3, Estádio do Dragão, Porto, Tuesday, 20 October 2026.
Scorer: Til (57′) for PSV.
