Randal Kolo Muani headed in a stoppage-time winner as Juventus came from a goal down to beat Celta Vigo 2-1 in the Europa League on Thursday. The late goal gave Luciano Spalletti’s side a second win from two matches and provisional top spot.
Vigo, Spain: For most of the night at Balaídos, Juventus looked like a team waiting for a moment. Celta made them wait until the 92nd minute, then paid for it.
Celta strike first
Hugo Álvarez gave the home side the lead in the 18th minute, finishing from close range after a flowing Celta move. Juventus, who had opened the competition with a 5-0 win over NEC, struggled to find rhythm after that, and Celta held their advantage into the break.
Woltemade levels, Kolo Muani wins it
The equaliser came in the second half. Teun Koopmeiners delivered into the area, Marcos Alonso’s touch diverted the ball, and Nick Woltemade volleyed in from close range. From there it became a match of chances and nerves, with neither side able to settle it.
Substitute Kolo Muani did. In the 92nd minute, Andrea Cambiaso crossed and the forward met it with a header to win the match for Juventus. The club also marked a personal milestone on the night, with Pierre Kalulu making his 100th appearance for Juventus.
Where it leaves both clubs
The win put Juventus provisionally at the top of the Europa League table. It also left Celta with a painful defeat after they had led, and they had opened their campaign with a 1-0 loss to Omonia Nicosia.
Both teams return to domestic action on Sunday. Juventus host Lazio in Serie A, while Celta face Deportivo Alavés in La Liga.
