Barcelona came from a goal down in Istanbul to beat Galatasaray 4-1 in the Champions League. João Cancelo levelled before the break, then Fermín López, Anthony Gordon and Karim Adeyemi scored in the second half, with Lamine Yamal providing the assists for the middle two.
Istanbul, Turkey: Barcelona were behind at half-time, but not for long. Aleksey Batrakov’s goal gave Galatasaray the lead on Tuesday night, and Hansi Flick’s side answered with four of their own, three of them in a 15-minute spell after the interval, to win 4-1 and make it two wins from two in the league phase.
Batrakov strikes against the run of play
Barcelona dominated the opening stages without scoring. Uğurcan Çakır denied Gordon, and Dani Olmo headed a good chance wide. Then Galatasaray struck: Rafael Leão worked down the left, and Batrakov fired in the opener in the 28th minute. The goal took a slight deflection and was his first in the competition.
Cancelo levels before the break
Barcelona restored parity in the 43rd minute. Olmo won the ball high up the pitch and set up Cancelo, who curled a finish into the far corner to make it 1-1 at half-time. Galatasaray also had a first-half goal ruled out around the 34th minute, when a Barış Alper Yılmaz header was disallowed for offside after a VAR check.
Three goals in 15 minutes
The second half belonged to Barcelona. Fermín López headed in Yamal’s delivery in the 50th minute, and three minutes later Gordon finished low at the near post after Yamal’s run and pass, his first Champions League goal for the club. In the 65th minute Adeyemi struck past Çakır to make it 4-1. Barcelona finished with an expected-goals figure of around 2.8, against under 0.5 for Galatasaray.
Where it leaves both sides
Barcelona have now won both of their opening league-phase games, adding to a strong domestic start that included a 3-0 win over Getafe in La Liga on Saturday, when Gordon also scored. Galatasaray remain without a point after two games.
