Elliot Anderson has completed a British record £116 million move from Nottingham Forest to Manchester City, signing a five-year deal at the Etihad. “City are one of the biggest clubs in the world and the squad they have is amazing — so strong in every position,” Anderson said. “As soon as I knew they wanted me, I was absolutely determined to make this move happen. The pull of City’s environment was a key factor. “From the outside looking in, City are a club that treats its players well and provides the perfect environment to excel. He registered 4 goals and 4 assists in 38 Premier League appearances for Nottingham Forest in 2025-26, numbers that understate his influence in a Forest side that finished in the bottom half of the table. His passing volume was extraordinary — 1,830 successful passes in the season, ranking him 10th in the entire Premier League — and he created 30 chances, placing him 13th in the division for that metric.
From Bristol Rovers to British Record
The journey to £116 million has not been a straight line. Anderson came through Newcastle United’s academy before a loan spell at Bristol Rovers — where the ‘Geordie Maradona’ nickname was born on the terraces of the Memorial Stadium — gave him the platform to announce himself. He came through the youth ranks at Newcastle and made 55 first-team appearances for his boyhood club, before joining Forest in a £35m deal two years ago and playing 92 times for the Reds.
